Fifth Journal

Week from June 4th to June 7th, 2019

In this week, I had all the classes with 801. On Tuesday, I did the second intervention of my innovation plan and it was really good. My students like the idea of using short stories to improve reading comprehension skills. In this intervention, I did a pre-reading activity called questions from pictures in order to contextualize students with the short story. In the while activity, students had to read the short story and write five sentences that summarize the story. Finally, the post-reading the activity was a question quiz. My students did really well, they participated in all the activities and they enjoyed it. On Wednesday, It was horrible, When I came to the classroom, students were shouted and they did not want to be quiet. Also, my supervisor went that day to observe my class and it was terrible. I planned activity in order to review vocabulary, it was a crossword and my students liked it a lot. But, it was a mess when I asked them to complete a big crossword that I did in cardboard and put on the board, because of all of them wanted to participate and there were just ten words. The next time that I do this kind of activities, I will choose the students to participate.
This week, the class with 802 was just an hour, and I did the same activity (crossword). This activity was better with them because they behaved well and when we had to complete the crossword on the board, I chose the students. Some of them wanted to participate and they were a little angry because they couldn’t do it. I did not feel really well but I did not want to have a mess in my classroom again.

Fourth Journal

Week from May 28th to May 31st, 2019

In this week, I had classes with both groups.  On Tuesday, I had classes with 801, it was a really good class since I did the first intervention of my innovation plan. I planned some activities for this first intervention. The first one was the Pictionary game in which students had to work in groups and each group had to choose a person who draws a word that the teacher gave them. This activity was really interesting for them being that they were active, they really like it. Then, I had written the first short story in some big cardboard, so, we all together read the story and then, students look for unknown words. Finally, we did two post-reading activities, one of them was a question quiz but they did not like it a  lot and they didn't want to do it. So, I decided to do the question quiz in a different way like a game and it worked a little bit.  On Wednesday, I had classes with 801 and  802. With 801, I had planned a nice activity for this class and when I did it in class, it was successful. I taught my students some vocabulary about health problems so I decided to bring realia to the class in order to teach it to my students. The activity caught their attention and they were paying attention all the class. It was good. With 802, I couldn't do any activity from what I had planned because my cooperator teacher asked me to reinforce one of the topics I had taught in previous classes. But, it was really difficult to work with them that day. They were really undisciplined, they were always shouted and they didn't want to work. I felt really stressful and I almost cry and I am not lying. It was horrible for me. On Friday, I had just a class of 40 minutes with 802. I took some time of this class to talk with my students about their behavior in the previous class. Then, we did a reading activity and they did well that day.

Third Journal

Week from May 21st to May 24th, 2019
In this week, I planned some communicative activities in order to make students use the topics that I taught them, last class. One of the activities that I planned was the game called speaking cards. This activity was really good, my students were really active and they always tried to speak in English when they were answering the questions.  I will do this activity again in other classes. It really worked with my students. Also, in this week, I did a listening activity again and it was better than the last time because the audio was easier for my students since I asked two friends to help me to record the audio. So, my students could understand a lot because my friends spoke clearly and slowly.
Another really good activity was a game called “snakes and ladders”. It was in order to make students communicate in English because they need to improve their speaking skill. So, students worked in pairs. each pair had their card with the game and a die. While they were playing, I was walking around the classroom in order to check if students were doing the exercise and if they were speaking in English. This games helped me to realize that my students worked better if they are with only one or two classmates because they were doing the exercise and they were using  L2 but when they are speaking for the whole class. They felt less confident.
