A Good Teacher

WHAT MAKES YOU A GOOD TEACHER?

I  think there are many qualities that a good teacher should have. It is important to know that each teacher has as good qualities as bad quealities but the most important is to focus on others' good characteristics.

I would say that there are many good qualities that all teachers should have. One of them is being aware of teaching more than a subject taking into account that as teachers, we are shaping our students' lives, so. I know it is important to teach English in our case but also, we have to teach them values and principles. It means that you have to act with honesty, justice, and integrity.

Being passionate about what we are teaching is another important quality since our excitement for the subject will encourage and engage students to learn being that as teacher, we are influencing their lives. One quality that is related to the last one is being respectful, we have to respect our students listening to them and letting them speak.

I think it is necessary that teacher create the classroom in a place where they feel welcomed, safe, respected, challenged. Also, teacher should teach students that it is good to make mistakes. Teacher should help students to discover their strengths to be successful in what they want.

Second Journal

Week from May 7th to May 10th, 2019.

In this week, there were some problems with the schedule at the school because there were some activities and I couldn't teach most of my lessons. On Tuesday 6th, I went to school but my students weren't there because the school had an activity. The problem is that we neither had classes last week, so, I have not been able to do many activities.

On Wednesday 8th, I had classes with 801. For me, it was a little difficult because I was nervous being that I know that my university supervisor was going to visit and observe my class. Some minutes later, I tried to be calm. Then, when I was teaching my class, I didn't feel nervous, I feel more confident. I thought the activities that I did in the class were really good because my students were so active and the participation was good. Besides, I noticed that my students liked working with new materials. In this class, I used ICT materials and games and it was successful.

Also, I had classes with 802. unfortunately, there was a problem with this group in terms of the materials because I didn't know what happened with my USB didn't work in the computer, so, I couldn't do the ICT activities with them. Due to it, I had to improvise the activities and it was horrible. Besides, my students were so talkative and they misbehave a lot. It was a really bad experience. Now, I know I need to have a plan B for each activity.

Finally, on Friday 10th, I couldn´t teach my class because I had an accident, so, my cooperator teacher taught the lesson.

First Journal

Week from April 2th to April 5th, 2019.

This week was difficult for me because it was my first time in charge of two big groups of students. Last week, when I observed the classes in order to know my new students, I could have certain ideas about my students' behavior, English level and ways of learning.

My first challenge this week was planning the lesson since when I talked to my cooperator teacher, she told me what theme (the environment and human actions) and grammatical topic (past simple) which I had to develop in the class. I felt a little confused about how to join these two topics so I looked for reading and listening exercises about it but I didn't know how to develop the activities. My cooperator teacher was so helpful. She helped me a lot with the students. Then, she helped me to plan some activities.

In my first lessons in my two groups (801 and 802), I felt really nervous. I tried to take into account all the tips that my cooperator and supervisor gave me. I tried to use L2 all the time in the classroom but when I noticed my students didn't understand, I repeated doing some movements and using simple words but sometimes it was necessary to speak in Spanish Despite this, I tried to make them express their ideas in simple sentences but in English.

In the first lessons, most of the students told me "profe no le entiendo nada"  or "yo no puedo decir nada en Inglés". I felt frustrated with both groups.

In the next two classes, some aspects of the class changed a little bit. My students tried to speak in English although They didn't say complete sentences to express their ideas, they communicate in English. Also, they started to be active in the participation of the activities that I prepared and did in the class and obviously I felt better with myself. Even I was more confident in everything that I was doing.

Another problem that I had in the first lesson plan and I tried to do it well in the second lesson was with time management. I gave much time to one activity and the other activity was shorter than how I had planned it. At the end of the week, I realized that I had planned many activities for the week, so for the next week, I will try to plan for or five activities that I can develop each one of these in the classes.
